Mark Prater has served as an elder at Covenant Fellowship Church since 2002. In 1996, he led a church-planting team to Pittsburgh in order to begin Providence Church, where he served as senior pastor until 2002. Mark and his wife, Jill, have three adult daughters and ten grandchildren. They make their home in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Mark also serves as Executive Director of Sovereign Grace Churches. He has been chosen by the Council of Elders to inspire and impart vision to SGC churches and their leaders. He motivates, encourages, and exhorts them to fulfill their shared commitments and warns them against cultural temptations or internal inconsistencies with their shared doctrine and values.

The Office of Executive Director has a number of priorities mandated by the SGC Book of Church Order:

18.4.1.1 Ensure the successful operation of the Leadership Team through strategic planning, support, evaluation, and movement-wide communication;

18.4.1.2 Facilitate successful operation of the polity and mission, movement-wide, through ensuring that the Leadership Team supports and interacts with Regions, Regional Leaders, and globally associated churches;

18.4.1.3 Oversee and support fundraising for Sovereign Grace;

18.4.1.4 Serve as Chair for the Council of Elders, overseeing official meetings and coordinating all its key functions. He may temporarily appoint a Special Chair of his choosing to serve in his stead. Should the Executive Director be unable to appoint a Special Chair when needed, the Executive Committee will appoint one of their choosing;

18.4.1.5 Serve as the authoritative point of contact for all Leadership Team ministry functions;

18.4.1.6 Promote the health and plurality of the Leadership Team to maximize the effectiveness of each director;

18.4.1.7 Report annually to the Council of Elders on the state of the union of Sovereign Grace churches, including a full assessment of and plans for the progress of our mission along with all relevant financial, legal, and statistical data. This report, along with a full financial statement, will be published and made available to all Sovereign Grace elderships.
